 Abstract:  Nancy Coe Wixom, a Bratenahl, Ohio, resident, was a member of the Cleveland Landmarks Commission from its organization in 1971 until 1974. The Cleveland Landmarks Commission was created by the City Council of Cleveland, Ohio, to preserve and protect historical areas, buildings, structures, and works of art and other objects relating to the city's cultural heritage. The collection consists of records of meetings of the Cleveland Landmarks Commission, including a statement of purpose, ordinance records, minutes, budget reports, correspondence, area landmark surveys, and federal, state, and local information on protecting and preserving cultural landmarks.

8Title:  Albert and Maxine Levin Papers

 Abstract:  Albert Arthur Levin was a Cleveland, Ohio, lawyer and developer of commercial and industrial real estate. A native of Pennsylvania, he moved to Lorain, Ohio, at the age of 10. In 1918, he assumed operation of the family clothing store. After graduation from college in 1934, he became active in Democratic Party politics. He moved to Cleveland and established a law practice in 1938. He later became involved in major real estate developments, including the Marshall and Public Square buildings and the Parmatown and Shoreway shoppong centers. Levin was also a leader in fund drives for the United Jewish Appeal and Bonds for Israel, and was involved in various civic affairs, including serving as foreman of the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury (1962), trustee of the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, and co-chair of the national fund drive for Wilberforce University. He married Maxine Goodman in 1945. Maxine Goodman Levin was a civic activist and philanthropist in her own right. Born in Cleveland, she was a descendant of early Cleveland settlers. Her father, Max P. Goodman, was a prominent Cleveland attorney. Maxine Goodman Levin graduated from Ohio State University, where she studied the history of architecture. She was a founder and first president of the Cleveland Restoration Society and was chairperson of the Cleveland Landmarks Commission. She was also active on the Woodruff Hospital Board, the Women's City Club, Hadassah, Cleveland Chapter, and the World Jewish Congress Division of Northeast Ohio. She served on the boards of Dyke College, Cleveland State University, the East End Neighborhood House, the Jewish Community Federation, and the Catholic Social Services of Cuyahoga County. In 1969, she endowed a chair in urban studies and public service at Cleveland State University, and subsequently was instrumental in establishing the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at that school. Maxine Goodman Levin died in 2002. The collection consists of awards, honors, biographical materials, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and brochures.

 Abstract:  The Ohio Historic Preservation Office, Western Reserve Region was a regional office of the state agency designated to regulate funding and organize and administer an historic preservation plan in Ohio. It was established in 1973 and located at the Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland, Ohio. After state funding ceased in 1981, the Historical Society funded the office until 1990. Eric Johannesen served as the preservation officer. The Western Reserve Region includes 12 counties in Northeast Ohio. The collection consists of nomination forms, inventory forms, correspondence, photographs, and research material relating to the office's National Register of Historic Places program and the Ohio Historic Inventory program collected during the office's operation at the Western Reserve Historical Society. The first program was to recognize and nominate important historic structures within the region to the National Register of Historic Places. The second program was an on-going survey to record all buildings, sites and structures of architectural and historic significance in the state. The files include building and district histories, property records, architectural reports, and information on historic status. These files will be useful to professional preservationists, students of history and architecture, land-use planners, various local and county agencies, and neighborhood researchers.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland Women's City Club Foundation was established in 1948 by the Women's City Club of Cleveland, Ohio. It supported projects related to women, education, public affairs and effective government, civic beautification and restoration, health and social service initiatives, and the arts and culture of the community. In 1961 it established the Cleveland Arts Prize to recognize local talent, and in the 1990s it became involved with the Betty Ott Garden for the Blind at the City Greenhouse. The collection consists of account passbooks, agendas, articles of incorporation, brochures, budgets, by-laws, catalogs, certificates, correspondence, financial statements, invitations, leases, legal documents, maps, meeting notices, memoranda, minutes, newspaper and magazine clippings, photographs and negatives, press releases, proclamations, proposals, publications, questionnaires, reports, rosters, and wills.

 Abstract:  Thomas Campbell was an author, community leader, and professor and university administrator who co-founded the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University and served as its director. Campbell served as president of the City Club of Cleveland, and was instrumental in opening its doors to women. He directed the Cleveland Heritage Program for Cleveland Public Library. He ran for mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, in 1977. He founded the Irish American Archives Society and was deeply involved in the Irish American community of Cleveland, as well as numerous other groups in the Cleveland, Ohio area. The collection consists of agendas, awards, biographical data, correspondence, diaries, a dissertation, examination papers, flyers, invitations, magazine articles, memberships, minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, photographs, plays, poems, programs, recipes, reports, resumes, speeches, workshops and writings.
